ABOUT CAMPBELL RANCH
| Campbell Ranch is located
in the southwest corner of San Saba County. Rolling hills and century
old live oak trees mark the property owned and operated by Tim and Helen
Dockal.
To adapt to the economic
changes in the agricultural industry, the ranch has had to diversify in
several ways. Cattle still are a major source of income as is hunting.
The ranch has been game managed for over 20 years and boasts of several
trophy bucks being harvested each season. Turkey are abundant, as
are ferral hog. Blackbuck antelope are available to the exotic hunter. |

When the mohair industry
lost its incentive program the ranch found itself losing a major source
of income. This lead to the introduction of Boer goats.
We have gradually built our herd into one of the premier sources of livestock
show exhibitors. Each year has progressively become better than the
last, with winners in major shows all over the country.

We continue to cull selectively
and purchase high quality bucks from noted breeders. Currently, we
run about 500 head of Boer nannies, so there is an abudance of wethers
to choose from. |
With the the increased number
of goats, there also was an increase in the number of predators, so we
began using guard dogs to protect the goats. This, too, has become
a business. Almost any time of the year, we have puppies available.
They are a cross between Great Pyrenees-Anatolian shepherd and Akbash.
They are very loyal dogs and make fabulous pets as well. Our loss
to predators is less that 1%.
| Our goal in life is to insure
a future in the ranching industry for our daughter. Through diversity
and good managment we hope to create a setting in which our family will
continue to be successful and can carry on a one hundred fifty year legacy. |
